All of Nordic Pack's glass packaging is food approved. We also sell certain types of glass packaging that are approved for pharmaceuticals and the like.
Yes, a package can be approved for food if it has some PCR (PCR=recycled material). Currently, only PET is approved for this.
This is a difficult question to answer. In a way, you can say that glass is more environmentally friendly because glass is largely made of materials (including sand and soda) that can be recycled basically any number of times, plastic cannot be reused to the same extent. However, normally not as much energy is required to produce a plastic package. So depending on which part of the product's life cycle you look at, the answer is a little different.
This differs from different glass mills. But a rule of thumb is that approx. 50-90% crushed glass is used when manufacturing a new package. In Sweden, roughly 90% of all glass put on the market is recycled, what does not go back and become new glass is used for other forms of manufacturing.
This depends on the material and manufacturer involved. PET is the plastic where this is most flexible and available. Here you can usually get 25/50/75/100% in recycled material. PET is also the plastic today that can be approved for food when it comes to recycling. Today, the industry recommends not to exceed 50% recycled material in order to maintain quality and ensure availability of PCR (PCR=recycled plastic) on the market.
Yes absolutely.
In order for a PET package to be recycled into a new package, it cannot be colored.
ATTENTION! If the packaging has "Carbon free black", the NIR technology can recognize the plastic product and sort it for recycling. Feel free to ask us more about coloring and recycling.
Our packaging is mainly manufactured by leading manufacturers on the European market. In order for us to be able to sell these in such a cost- and environmentally-efficient way on the Swedish market, our manufacturers are above all located in the northern part of Europe.
This is very difficult to give a general answer to. Some of our manufacturers have sophisticated systems that can measure this, others do not. However, we usually recommend that you as a customer can work in a certain direction, so that the packaging has as small a climate footprint as possible. It could, for example, be about choosing a packaging that is manufactured close to where it is to be sold. But also that you can choose packaging with recycled material.
The majority of our beer bottles are produced in the Nordics, which halves the climate impact compared to bottles produced outside the Nordics. Our supplier (Ardagh) has used Rise as an independent third party for the evaluation of their CO2 certification tool. In addition, our supplier uses green electricity, which results in 0 climate impact. Distinction from factories outside the Nordics that still use, among other things, coal power
A big advantage of a glass package is precisely the properties the glass possesses. Pretty much nothing happens to the glass over time, and it is possible to package food which then also lasts a very long time. Which in turn contributes to less food waste.
The glass is also 100% recyclable and we in Sweden have a fantastic system for recycling. Many also point out that the glass can often give a feeling of exclusivity, which is of course a great advantage in the way of marketing your finished product. Nordic Pack can also offer glass from Sweden's only commercial glass factory! The disadvantage is that glass is fragile, if you drop it on the floor it breaks easily. Can in some cases be heavy to handle in a production, for example.
There are many advantages to plastic packaging. Often easy to handle. Manufacturing is relatively flexible when it comes to volume and different types of ad ons. It is now also possible to get plastic packaging made from 100% recycled material. It is often cheaper to transport a plastic package as these can often be stacked on top of each other and are relatively light. The disadvantage is that plastic packaging is made from a fossil material as long as it is not recycled plastic. There is currently a limitation in which recycled plastic materials can be used for different contents. Many recycled plastics are, for example, not compatible with various medicines or foodstuffs. However, there are a number of areas where recycled plastic is excellently suited, such as in industries such as the chemical-technical industry and personal care.
There is a great advantage in choosing a package that is made of only one material (monomaterial). Packaging made from different materials, for example cardboard+plastic, cannot today be recycled in the same way as packaging made only from cardboard or plastic. These then go to incineration instead.
